The flickering soul

I feel an ache in my heart.
The kind that makes breathing hard.

It is as if someone is holding it but tight and squishing it hard.
Like we both are in pain that we are trying to share.

I choose to run away.

You can escape from the outside world,
but how do you run away from your soul?

I probed and pondered, faced with a shocking revelation.

It all started that fateful day, the accident that changed our lives.

The paper said the collision caused two deaths.

Only my soul chose to stay, even if it is not in its original vessel,
while the other chose to move on.

We have a bond now, you and I.
A rather unlikely one, but we will make it work.

We have to.
